geotagging sites and services

I received an invite to bright kite (I have a couple of invites now - leave a comment and I’ll send you one) yesterday so I signed up and straight of the bat I was wondering what this was for and how I could use it - or how my clients could use it.

After a short search I found this presentation by Tom Coates (video by Premasagar Rose) The video was recorded at a developer evening in London and focuses on Fire Eagle, Fire Eagle is a new service from yahoo for geoscrobbling

Tom Coates on Fire Eagle from Premasagar Rose on Vimeo.

The video is well worth the watch, Tom’s a great presenter and shoots through his slides perhaps too quickly. The bonus is that I now know a bit more about geoscrobbling (a word I think Premagascar has created as there’s no wikipedia entry yet) and about 30 websites to look into :D

On Bright Kite, well I’m still not too sure how I can use it effectively as I don’t really want to go to another site and post notes and images as I have all that pretty much covered, Fire Eagle however looks fantastic acting as a conduit between services nicely in the background.

Some sites working with Fire Eagle

  1. dopplr
  2. Navizon
  3. Loki
  4. ZoneTag
  5. Firebot
  6. Bright Kite
  7. Rummble
  8. Plazes

And many many more - check out the video for all the sites.
Oh if you want a bright kite invite leave a comment - anything will do - and your email

a.viary’s Phoenix & Peacock now in public beta

I got my invitation to the beta of a.viary’s Phoenix image editor and Peacock a pattern generator.
Both look very promising but have plenty of bugs _that I obviously reported_

The image editor has plenty of potential with importing from flickr (wonder if there will be an export option) facebook etc… as well as the usual image editing tricks that you would expect, including masks

I have 1 invite left. If you would like it leave a comment (include your email in the email field then it won’t be grabbed for spam)

My new toy, iPod Touch

iPod Touch, originally uploaded by atomicShed.

my new toy. Why can’t I save images from the net though!

I’m getting used to the touch’s keyboard to be honest it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. The magnify feature is a great idea but is a little buggy & the predictive text is a bit useless (its not got 1 word right or before I have finished it yet)
The killer feature is the safari browser - obviously some usability problems but the page rendering is excellent. It does really need a copy and paste built into the OS and a flash player would be ace.
